Coming from England and the south the M6 motorway becomes the M74 motorway just after the Scottish border. Continue on the M74.
As you approach Glasgow, follow signs for the M8 motorway. The M8 motorway passes through the centre of Glasgow. Please note there can be traffic congestion and holdups in this area depending on the time of day.
Continue on the M8 motorway till you come to junction 30, Erskine Bridge. The Erskine Bridge is toll free. Stay on the left hand lane on the bridge and take the off slip road to the A82.
Continue on the A82 along Loch Lomond side for twenty miles. At Tarbet leave the A82 and proceed on the A83. Continue along the A83 for ten miles until you come to the junction of the A815.
Drive along the A815 for five miles. Just a few hundred metres past the village of St Catherine's you come on this most welcome sign. You have arrived at the beginning of a delightful holiday.
Ryanair operate budget air fares to Glasgow (Prestwick) from a considerable number of UK and European airports. They also have car hire facilities at Glasgow (Prestwick). Halftown is a one hour twenty minutes drive from Glasgow (Prestwick). You can either drive direct via the Erskine Bridge on a beautiful journey through the mountains, or take a ferry from Gourock to Dunoon. Two ferry companies operate the Gourock to Dunoon route; Western Ferries and Caledonian MacBrayne.
There is also a half-hourly train service from Glasgow (Prestwick) railway station to Glasgow Central and a bus service from Glasgow to Cairndow, a village near to Halftown.
